Repointing / Tuckpointing
Cracking, missing or deteriorating mortar provides a direct route for water to penetrate masonry walls. This water can then become subject to the excessive forces of the freeze-thaw cycles and eventually will deteriorate the masonry units. Tuckpointing is the process of removing deteriorated mortar to a uniform depth between masonry units, placing new mortar into the joint, and tooling the joint to match the appearance of the original (adjacent) mortar joints. Everclear Enterprises, Inc. is experienced in selecting the correct mortar for each project – mortar that closely matches the existing material in strength, hardness, color, and texture. This ensures that when our work is completed not only is the structural integrity of the wall improved, but the wall is also more resistant to future water penetration.
